The FIO numerical model shows that there is An anti-cyclonic eddy is present off the Peninsular Malaysia's east coast in summer, centered at 5ºN and 105.5ºE. To validate the model result, FIO,UKM and UMT carried out a joint cruise to the area during Sep 13-15,2001.

The cruise conducted the metrological measurements (Wind speed, direction, temperature, humid), CTP profiles, Sontek 500k ADCP downlooking observation(1min averaging every 2mins for 20 mins), biological and chemical sampling on 10 stations.
